So How do I join?

Simply contact us using the Contact Form to the left of the page, by e-mailing us at mrideedee@gmail.com or simply forward a comment below with your contact details (we will not publish comments containing personal details on this Blog).

Alternatively, just speak to one of us at an event.

We accept new members with no experience whatsoever, folk who are already members of other Living History/reenactment groups and, where appropriate, "guest members" visiting this country for an event or season.

There are generally speaking no bars to participation, though children will need to be accompanied by an appropriate adult at events and it should be born in mind that many shows take place at historical sites (such as ruins or castles) and rural locations (muddy fields) which, by their very nature, cannot always be guaranteed to meet the access requirements of persons with disabilities.

In addition many events will include loud noises (including explosions, shouting, singing/carousing etc.) or involve combat displays, the presence of animals, open fires and elements of confusion which some individuals may find stressful or upsetting.

It goes without saying that the combat aspects of our activities (which are NOT compulsory - we have plenty of non-fighters in our group) will, like all contact sports, contain risk factors, and we would also ask that individuals with potentially serious, underlying health issues or allergies make us aware, so that we are forearmed in the event of an incident.

What do I need to Start?

New potential members who come to us can usually be lent kit for their first shows and given guidance and, where appropriate, basic training towards whatever aspect of history interests them, from crafts to making presentations to the public to combat. All we initially ask in return is enthusiasm, a willingness to chip-in, and a sense of humour (essential).

Once someone has been to a few shows and has decided to commit to formally joining us there is a (pretty minimal at £10.00 p.a.) membership fee (to cover our Public Liability Insurance) and an expectation that the new member will start to gather their own costume and kit.

Again, there will be guidance on this, but (apart from certain aspects of our Napoleonic activities) there is generally no dictated "uniform" for the group nor a demand that a particular "period social status" be achieved by a new member.

This means that, on the whole - and so long as the required level of period authenticity for the event is maintained - it is an individual's own wishes and pocket which dictates what they wear or what they spend.

Later we will add pages with some general kit guidance. Meanwhile, please contact us with any queries.
